Jensen Ackles, who plays Ben / Soldier Boy in The Boys franchise, teased what’s in store for his character in the upcoming prequel series Vought Rising. The Boys premiered on Prime Video in July 2019 and has since become a global hit, leading to the development of multiple spin-offs. Vought Rising will take place in the ’50s and predominantly focus on Soldier Boy and Aya Cash’s Stormfront.
Jensen Ackles says Vought Rising will explore the ‘genesis’ of The Boys universe
Ackles recently made an appearance at Creation Entertainment’s The Road So Far… The Road Ahead: Creation Novi, Michigan, convention, celebrating 20 years of Supernatural, and discussed Vought Rising. In a video shared by @FangasmSPN, the actor can be seen stating that Vought Rising would offer a look at the Vought world through a “different lens because this is the genesis of it all.”
The Days of Our Lives alum then proceeded to explain what fans can expect to learn about Soldier Boy in the prequel show. He said, “Soldier Boy, specifically, hasn’t had…decades and decades of being that guy.” Ackles indicated that his character in Vought Rising will be trying to figure out who he is and what he will become. He added, “So, it’s kind of a coming-of-age story for him [Soldier Boy]” that will explore his journey.
Ackles mentioned that Vought Rising will also delve into Soldier Boy’s past and his insecurities. He continued, “He’s had now decades to mask that and build up the gruff exterior that you get on The Boys. This is kind of peeling all that away. So you’re gonna get to see more vulnerability, I think, from him.”
When a fan asked whether Vought Rising would reveal what Ben’s last name is, Ackles said he didn’t know the character’s last name, before jokingly adding that it could be “Boy.”
Ackles made his debut in The Boys in Season 3. At the time of this article’s composition, Vought Rising doesn’t have an official release date.
