Avatar: Frontiers of Pandora Update Totally Changes How Game Plays

Ubisoft’s open-world action-adventure game, Avatar: Frontiers of Pandora, is receiving a sizeable update that will add a third-person mode to the game.

What do we know about the new Avatar: Frontiers of Pandora update?

Announced by Ubisoft and Massive Entertainment today, the Avatar: Frontiers of Pandora third-person mode update will launch for PS5, Xbox Series X|S, and PC on December 5. Along with the new camera perspective, it will also introduce the highly requested New Game+ mode, allowing players to experience the story again with their unlocked skills. It will also increase the challenge a bit, so a brand-new skill tree will be introduced, as well as more powerful gear.

“With the third-person mode, players can experience Pandora from a whole new perspective—at the push of a button,” says Ubisoft and Massive Entertainment’s statement. “Whether exploring, fighting, or simply taking in the view, third-person mode brings a new sense of scale, freedom, and immersion. Massive Entertainment has reworked animations, controls, audio, and camera systems to ensure the experience feels seamless and intuitive.”

“We’ve always envisioned Avatar Frontiers of Pandora as a living world that evolves with our players,” said Omar Bouali, Creative Director at Massive Entertainment. “This update is a celebration of our community’s passion and we’re thankful to our players for their support—it means the world to our team.”

Alongside the update, two new story packs will release in the form of The Sky Breaker and Secrets of the Spires.

Additionally, several quality-of-life updates will be implemented to Avatar: Frontiers of Pandora. This includes a revamped Hunter’s Guide, smoother 40 fps mode, and rebalanced combat.

Right now is a solid time to pick up Avatar: Frontiers of Pandora, as it is on sale for a limited time. Ubisoft does note that timing does vary per platform, but Steam currently has it on sale for 70% off. This brings the price down of the base game to $20.99.

The update will launch just ahead of the release of Avatar: Fire and Ash, the next film in James Cameron’s sci-fi film franchise. The movie premieres on December 19.
