Wonder Woman Update: Writer Announced for DCU Movie

The writer of the new Wonder Woman movie has been announced.

James Gunn and Peter Safran’s DCU officially kicked off in December 2024 with the animated Creature Commandos series. That was followed by Superman, which is now playing in United States theaters, while Peacemaker Season 2 is scheduled to arrive next month. DCU projects coming in 2026 include Lanterns, Supergirl, and Clayface.

A DCU Wonder Woman movie is also in development, as Gunn confirmed earlier this month that the project was currently being written; however, he didn’t say at the time who was writing it.

Who is writing the Wonder Woman movie?

Per Variety, the Wonder Woman movie is being written by Ana Nogueira. Nogueira wrote the screenplay for Supergirl, which is directed by Craig Gillespie, and is also working on the DCU Teen Titans movie, which does not yet have a release date.

Besides writing, Nogueira has starred in television shows such as Blue Bloods, The Michael J. Fox Show, The Vampire Diaries, The Blacklist, and Hightown.

Not much else is known about the Wonder Woman movie at this time, as plot details remain under wraps and a director is not yet attached to the project. Nobody has been publicly cast in the role of Diana Prince as of yet.

Variety previously reported that, following the box office success of Superman, Warner Bros. Pictures and DC Studios were fast-tracking the Wonder Woman movie into development. On Threads, Gunn recently addressed this, saying, “It’s a priority but I wouldn’t call that fast-tracked. Nothing is going to be shoot unless we’re as sure as we can be that the script is good.”

He also shot down a rumor that suggested DC Studios was looking for an “actress with a TV-centric resume, making to Supergirl’s Milly Alcock,” to play Wonder Woman. “Nope,” Gunn commented. “And I’d never in a million years look for a major role based on whether they did TV, films, or whatever. It’s all about the casting. I didn’t cast Milly because of her past, but because she was the best one for the role (But we’re also not casting WW, nor even discussing it, until a script is finished.”

Wonder Woman does not have a release date at this time. Supergirl, meanwhile, arrives on June 26, 2026.
