Malcolm-Jamal Warner Passes Away, The Cosby Show Star Was 54

The acting world is in mourning as The Cosby Show star Malcolm‑Jamal Warner has passed away at the age of 54.

According to ABC News, Warner died of asphyxia while in Costa Rica. The actor accidentally drowned after being caught in a high current in the ocean. His body was recovered on Sunday afternoon.

The Cosby Show: The Very Best of Theo Huxtable

Best known as Theodore Huxtable on The Cosby Show, Warner was a beloved actor in the 1980s. The actor was nominated for an Emmy award in 1986 for Outstanding Supporting Actor in a Comedy Series. After his breakout role, he starred in Malcolm & Eddie in the late 90s and led Reed Between the Lines in the 2010s. Other memorable roles for Warner included a stint on Sons of Anarchy as Sticky. Recently, he played a doctor on The Resident and appeared in the limited series The People v. O. J. Simpson: American Crime Story.

A multi-talented artist, Warner also earned a Grammy Award for Best Traditional R&B Performance for his song “Jesus Children” in 2015. He put out four albums in total, including 2015’s Selfless and a book of spoken word poetry called Hiding In Plain View, which was also nominated for a Grammy.
