Sofia Mattson explains why Sasha is leaving General Hospital for now
Sofia Mattsson exited General Hospital as Sasha Gilmore on July 18, 2025, after a seven-year run.
A show representative told TV Insider, “There was a good time in the storyline for Sofia to leave to pursue other opportunities in film and TV,” while executive producer Frank Valentini added, “We will miss her, but we wish her the best in all of her future endeavors.”
In her final episode, Sasha left Port Charles with baby Daisy, assisted by Jason Morgan, to live with her parents, Holly Sutton and Robert Scorpio. Reflecting on her early days, Mattsson said she expected only a few episodes but stayed due to continual growth. “From the start, I’ve seen every day as a challenge and opportunity to grow as an actress.”
Mattsson recalled her early nervousness and fast-paced scenes, especially enjoying Sasha’s “bad girl” beginnings and working with Michelle Stafford. “Her being so good made me realize early on how high the bar was.” Her first scene with Donnell Turner also helped her ease into the soap format. “His calm and professional demeanor really helped me feel comfortable.”
Over the years, twists such as discovering Sasha’s parents and her backstory of cons kept the role dynamic. “I definitely felt like I understood Sasha better than ever after the revelation of her parents.” Personal highlights included Sasha’s love stories with Brando and Michael. “I’m rooting for Sasha and Michael to reunite one day.”
On her last day, Mattsson described the experience as “emotional” and “bittersweet,” adding she’ll miss the excitement of receiving new scripts. Looking ahead, she has “some exciting new projects” in the works and shared gratitude toward fans: “I’m so honored to have gotten to experience your love and support firsthand.”
