Creature Commandos Season 2 Gets Unexpected Update From James Gunn

Creature Commandos Season 2 has received an unexpected update from James Gunn.

Creature Commandos is the first official project that is part of Gunn and Peter Safran’s DCU. The show, which was written by Gunn, premiered on Max in December 2024 and features a voice cast that includes Indira Varma as the Bride, Sean Gunn as G.I. Robot, Alan Tudyk as Doctor Phosphorus, Zoë Cato as Nina Mazursky, David Harbour as Eric Frankenstein, and Frank Grillo as Rick Flag Sr.

What is the Creature Commandos Season 2 update?

Creature Commandos scored a Season 2 renewal shortly after the show premiered, though there hasn’t been much news about the project since then.

Now, however, Gunn has revealed on Threads that he is not writing Creature Commandos 2. Rather, the show has a writers’ room, meaning multiple people will be working on the scripts. While this may be disappointing for fans of Gunn’s writing, it could be good news in terms of a quicker release date, as the project doesn’t have to fully wait for Gunn’s schedule to clear up.

Having said that, Creature Commandos Season 2 does not have an official HBO Max release date at this time.

Gunn and Safran said in a statement when Creature Commandos Season 2 was announced, via Variety, “We’re thrilled to team up with Max for another season of Creature Commandos mayhem. From our spectacular first season of Peacemaker to the astonishing run of The Penguin to the record-breaking launch of Creature Commandos, Max has consistently delivered above industry expectations and beyond our wildest imaginings.”

HBO’s Amy Gravitt added, “Only James Gunn could have conjured this wild band of misfit monsters who tug at your heart and force you to root passionately for them. We couldn’t be more delighted to continue their stories with James, Dean Lorey, Peter Safran, and our fantastic partners at DC Studios and Warner Bros. Animation.”
