Curious if The Daily Show is getting canceled and how Jon Stewart is reacting to the uncertainty? As Skydance moves to acquire Paramount Global, questions have emerged about the future of Comedy Central’s longest-running late-night program and its place in the new corporate landscape.
Here’s what Jon Stewart has said about The Daily Show and the Paramount–Skydance deal.
Jon Stewart’s reaction to rumors about The Daily Show getting canceled
Jon Stewart addressed rumors about The Daily Show potentially being canceled following Skydance’s acquisition of Paramount Global.
Speaking on his podcast The Weekly Show with Jon Stewart, he said, “Unfortunately, we haven’t heard anything from them… They haven’t called me and said like ‘Don’t get too comfortable in that office, Stewart.’” He added, “I’ve been kicked out of shittier establishments than that. We’ll land on our feet.”
Stewart confirmed he has had no communication with David Ellison or anyone from Skydance and said he “honestly” doesn’t know what their plans are. “They may sell the whole f—ing place for parts, I just don’t know. We’ll deal with it when we do,” he said.
He noted that The Daily Show recently posted strong ratings and described Comedy Central as “kind of like muzak at this point.” He added, “I think we’re the only sort of life that exists on a current basis other than South Park… I’d like to think we bring enough value to the property.”
Praising the team behind the show, Stewart highlighted the work of showrunner Jen Flanz and correspondents Jordan Klepper, Desi Lydic, Ronny Chieng, and Michael Kosta. He said, “I’m so happy and proud of everybody that works over there… They want to do that? Knock themselves out.”
In a separate comment, Stewart criticized Paramount Global’s recent settlement with Donald Trump, calling it “shameful.” Despite the corporate uncertainty, The Daily Show continues to thrive. It was recently nominated for 12 Emmy Awards, including Outstanding Talk Series, surpassing its previous record of seven.
