Sullivan’s Crossing Filming Locations & Setting: Where Was It Filmed & Set?

Fans of Sullivan’s Crossing know that the location of the series plays a huge part in its story. But there remains some confusion surrounding the show’s setting. Is it filmed in the same place where the novel is set? Is it a real place at all? Here is a breakdown of where Sullivan’s Crossing is filmed and where it is set.

Where was Sullivan’s Crossing filmed?

The production team films Sullivan’s Crossing in Halifax, Nova Scotia, which is on the east coast of Canada. Showrunner Roma Roth told Variety in an interview that she deliberately chose this location, even though it is distinct from where the novel is set.

“To ensure the show would feel distinctive from [Carr’s] other adaptation,” she said, “I decided to set it in Nova Scotia for Nova Scotia.” She spoke about Virgin River, which is filmed in Vancouver, British Columbia. She added, “This meant diverging from the books slightly; however, having been born and raised in Canada, it’s always been a personal goal of mine to create and write a Canadian content show that would reach a global audience.”

Where is Sullivan’s Crossing set?

Robyn Carr sets the novel in Timberlake, Nova Scotia, specifically at a campground called Sullivan’s Crossing. It is located at the intersection of the Colorado and Continental Divide Trails. The TV adaptation uses the same setting and location, but was shot in Halifax, Nova Scotia.

Is Sullivan’s Crossing a real place?

No, Sullivan’s Crossing is not a real place. Robyn Carr created this fictional place. The novel uses it as the primary location, and producers later adapted the story into a series.

Sullivan’s Crossing Seasons 1 and 2 are now streaming on Netflix. The third season recently concluded on the CW channel.
