The Penguin Season 2 Gets Promising Update from HBO Max Boss

HBO CEO Casey Bloys has shared a new update on whether or not The Penguin Season 2 is happening.

Created by Lauren LeFranc, The Penguin premiered in September 2024. The show serves as a spin-off to 2022’s The Batman, which was directed by Matt Reeves, and sees Colin Farrell reprise his role as Oswald “Oz” Cobb, while Cristin Milioti as Sofia Gigante.

There has been much talk and speculation regarding whether The Penguin Season 2 will happen. A continuation has not yet been officially announced, though many people involved with the project have said that a second season was possible.

What did Casey Bloys say about The Penguin Season 2?

When asked what he could say about a potential The Penguin Season 2 at this time by Variety, Bloys said, “The number one thing right now that Matt [Reeves] is dealing with is getting the movie going. I believe they’re making progress there. I know that he and [showrunner] Lauren [LeFranc] have talked about various ideas. So, could another chapter be in the future? Definitely possible. Right now, I think the priority for Matt is the movie. But I know that Lauren is thinking of various ideas that might work alongside the movie. I think it’s possible. I just don’t know at this point.”

Reeves recently turned in his script for The Batman Part II, which is scheduled to hit United States theaters on October 1, 2027.

When asked if Farrell was on board to return as Oz for The Penguin Season 2, Bloys said, “Yes, he’s the one that has to play that dark character and sit and sit in the makeup chair for several hours a day. So his buy-in is essential.”

No further details are available at this time. Both The Penguin and The Batman are currently available to stream on HBO Max.
