The Naked Gun reactions are beginning to appear after some early screenings of the movie, and fans and critics are praising Liam Neeson’s comedy movie.

On social media, early reactions to the film have slowly begun to make their way online. Critic sites like JoBlo heaped praise on the movie, calling it “the funniest flick” they’d seen in some time. Likewise, other critics from places like Variety and IGN also were extremely complimentary of the film’s tone and how close it was in spirit to the original franchise.

The Naked Gun is directed and executive produced by Akiva Schaffer of The Lonely Island comedy group (Hot Rod), who has been attached to helm the reboot since 2022. Alongside Neeson, the cast also includes Paul Walter Hauser, CCH Pounder, Kevin Durand, Cody Rhodes, Liza Koshy, and Eddie Yu, with Danny Huston. Schaffer also co-wrote the screenplay with Dan Gregor and Doug Mand. It is also produced by Seth MacFarlane and Erica Huggins for Fuzzy Door, with Daniel M. Stillman, Pete Chiappetta, Anthony Tittanegro, and Andrew Lary executive producing.
The original 1988 movie served as a spin-off to 1982’s Police Squad! It featured Nielsen reprising his role as Detective Sergeant Frank Drebin. It went on to spawn two more sequels, including 1991’s The Naked Gun 2½: The Smell of Fear and 1994’s Naked Gun 33 1⁄3: The Final Insult.
