The cast of Practical Magic 2 doesn’t include one star of the original movie.
It was officially announced in June 2024 that a sequel to Practical Magic is in the works. Sandra Bullock will reprise her role as Sally Owens in the movie, while Nicole Kidman will also return as Gillian “Gilly” Owens.
Who won’t be returning for Practical Magic 2?
Evan Rachel Wood, however, will not be returning as Kylie Owens in Practical Magic 2. She recently shared on social media that she offered to come back, but the studio ultimately said no.
“I am getting asked about this a lot, so l’ll just clear it up now,” Wood said, via Entertainment Weekly. “I was not asked to come back and be in the #PracticalMagic sequel. I offered my services, even if it was one scene or one line. I was told they are re-casting. I am sorry to disappoint the fans. It was not in my control or my choice. I would have happily rejoined my sisters.”
The original Practical Magic movie was released in 1998. Directed by Griffin Dunne, the cast also includes Goran Visnjic as James “Jimmy” Angelov, Stockard Channing as Frances Owens, Dianne Wiest as Bridget “Jet” Owens, Aidan Quinn as Gary Hallet, and Caprice Benedetti as Maria Owens.
“Sally and Gillian Owens, born into a magical family, have mostly avoided witchcraft themselves,” a description of the movie reads. “But when Gillian’s vicious boyfriend, Jimmy Angelov, dies unexpectedly, the Owens sisters give themselves a crash course in hard magic. With policeman Gary Hallet growing suspicious, the girls struggle to resurrect Angelov — and unwittingly inject his corpse with an evil spirit that threatens to end their family line.”
Channing and Wiest will be returning for Practical Magic 2, while new cast members include Joey King, Lee Pace, Maisie Williams, Xolo Maridueña, and Solly McLeod. The film currently has a September 18, 2026, release date from Warner Bros. Pictures.
