What happens in the American Warrior trailer?
The American Warrior trailer follows the story of Jai Kumar, an Indian-American and former MMA fighter, who becomes a local hero unexpectedly. Afterward, he tries to re-enter the world of professional fighting with the help of those around him. The film is set to release on August 29, 2025, on video-on-demand services and other major platforms.

American Warrior is led by Vishy Ayyar and Danny Trejo. Alongside the pair, the film also stars Verónica Falcón, Andrew Gray, Taylor Treadwell, and Omi Vaidya. The movie is directed by Gustavo Martin Benites in his feature debut, and co-written by Benites, Ayyar, and Matt Anthony.
The film is, in part, based on Ayyar’s real-life experiences, and follows “an Indian American and former MMA fighter striving for redemption after his release from prison. When he thwarts a robbery and becomes an unexpected local hero, Jai seizes the opportunity to rebuild his life by
re-entering the fighting world,” reads the film’s official synopsis. “What begins as a viral moment becomes a chance for personal salvation, as Jai is entered into a brutal local MMA tournament that forces him to confront his past and fight for a better future.”
