Ironheart producer Zoie Nagelhout recently revealed why Dominique Thorne’s character didn’t get her signature pink suit in the Marvel series. The miniseries, Ironheart, debuted on the Disney+ platform on June 24, 2025.
Apart from Thorne starring as Riri Williams, the show features Anthony Ramos, Lyric Ross, Alden Ehrenreich, Regan Aliyah, and more. Sacha Baron Cohen also made a special appearance in the show as the much-anticipated Marvel villain Mephisto.
Zoie Nagelhout on why Ironheart didn’t get her pink suit from comics
The producer of Ironheart, Zoie Nagelhout, recently spoke with The Direct about the reason behind excluding Riri Williams’ pink suit from the series.
When asked whether they considered giving Williams her pink suit in the miniseries, Nagelhout said, “To be totally honest, no.” She further shared that they excluded the pink suit “because when you look back to some of the earlier comics, you know artist Mike Deodato did this amazing, sort of gunmetal gray, mostly transformers-esque style suit that she built in her dorm room at MIT. And as soon as we saw that, we were like, ‘That’s it,’ you know.”
Nagelhout also conveyed that viewers might see the “pink suit in the future.” She said, “You might build that the way Tony built to the nanotech.” However, for Williams’ solo series, they wanted the character to begin with a suit that fans “can tell where each part came from.” The producer continued, “It came from this junkyard or this car part. That was where we wanted to start her.”
For her fight with Anthony Ramos’ Hood, Williams created a brand-new suit using parts from her stepfather’s car. She made this suit in her stepfather’s garage, and it was black and red in color. Additionally, it was also infused with magic.
Ironheart was released in two parts; the first three episodes came out in June, and the final three episodes dropped on July 1, 2025.
