Spider-Man: Brand New Day’s Tom Holland Reveals Exciting Change After No Way Home

Tom Holland, set to return in Spider-Man: Brand New Day, recently shared how filming the new sequel will differ from No Way Home. In a new interview, Holland confirmed that the team will shoot Brand New Day on real-world locations to create a more grounded feel. This decision shifts away from the COVID-era approach on No Way Home, where they filmed entirely on sound stages.

In a new interview with Flip Your Wig, Holland said, “We shot the entire film on stages. Now, we’re really gonna lean into that old-school filmmaking and shoot in real locations, which is why we’re starting in Glasgow.”

Holland confirmed that production begins this month in Glasgow, Scotland, where the crew will film a major set piece. The city previously doubled for Gotham City in The Batman (2022) and hosted shoots for Avengers: Infinity War and Kraven the Hunter. “It’s gonna feel like making [Spider-Man: Homecoming] again,” Holland said, referencing the first film in his trilogy.

Destin Daniel Cretton, known for Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings, directs Spider-Man: Brand New Day. The film will take a more grounded, street-level approach and reintroduce Jon Bernthal as Frank Castle/The Punisher. Bernthal recently returned to the MCU in Daredevil: Born Again. He will appear in a Spider-Man movie for the first time with Brand New Day.

Zendaya and Jacob Batalon are expected to return as MJ and Ned, respectively. New cast members reportedly include Sadie Sink (Stranger Things) and Liza Colón-Zayas (The Bear) in undisclosed roles.

Holland described the experience of returning to the role as “a breath of fresh air.” He continued, “I think the fans are gonna be over the moon with what we’re putting together.”

Sony will release Spider-Man: Brand New Day on July 31, 2026.
