With Dexter: Resurrection having just dropped its first two episodes, Michael C. Hall, who once again portrays the titular character in the show, has revealed who originated the idea for the sequel series. In a recent interview, the 54-year-old actor opened up about how the latest entry in the Dexter franchise came to be, while also naming the person who pitched its creation in the first place.
Michael C. Hall says it was his idea to bring Dexter back in Resurrection series
While speaking with The Guardian‘s Stuart Heritage, Michael C. Hall noted that he was the one who “casually floated” the idea for the Dexter: Resurrection series. Talking about how he contributed to Resurrection’s creation, the Six Feet Under alum stated, “The conversation started as a result of my saying, ‘What if he didn’t die?’ I can’t take credit for the whole scope of what we’re up to, but it was a notion that I casually floated. What if the end of New Blood was something that enabled Dexter to relinquish some burden that he’d been carrying for a long time?”
The actor then shed light on what motivated him to participate in the Dexter: Resurrection series, despite the titular character’s supposed passing in Dexter: New Blood. Hall cited the reasons as, “time passing, perspective shifting, recognising what a wonderful thing it is to collaborate with this family.” He also realized “that how New Blood seemingly ended could be a way to move the character into a place he hadn’t quite earned until then.”
Hall’s menacing serial killer seemingly met his end in Dexter: New Blood, with the series’ conclusion insinuating that Harrison, Dexter’s son, was the one who claimed his father’s life by shooting him. However, with the character making a surprise comeback in the Dexter: Resurrection series, Hall explained his return by saying, “Well, you know, he didn’t get shot in the head.”
Dexter: Resurrection premiered its first two episodes on Paramount+ with Showtime on July 11, with the remaining eight episodes of the series set to release on a weekly basis.
