Hulu has released the official Washington Black trailer for its newest period drama, based on the bestselling novel of the same name. All eight episodes of the series will be available for streaming starting on July 23, 2025 on Hulu in the U.S. and Disney+ internationally.

What happens in the Washington Black trailer?
The video highlights the journey of a brilliant young man named, Washington Black, whose story revolves around a globe-trotting adventure that began when he was 11-yeard-old. Emmy and Golden Globe winner Sterling K. Brown will be portraying the role of Medwin Harris, who takes Wash under his wing.
Washington Black is executive produced by showrunners Selwyn Seyfu Hinds, and Kimberly Ann Harrison. The cast also includes Ernest Kingsley Jr., Rupert Graves, Iola Evans, Edward Bluemel, Sharon Duncan-Brewster, Eddie Karanja, and Tom Ellis. Executive producers are Brown, Ellen Goldsmith-Vein, Wanuri Kahiu, Mo Marable, Rob Seidenglanz, Jeremy Bell, Lindsay Williams, D.J. Goldberg, Jennifer Johnson, and Anthony Hemingway, with Esi Edugyan producing. It is a production by 20th Television, Indian Meadows Productions, and The Gotham Group.
“The series follows the 19th-century odyssey of George Washington ‘Wash’ Black, an eleven-year-old boy born on a Barbados sugar plantation, whose prodigious scientific mind sets him on a path of unexpected destiny,” reads the official synopsis. “When a harrowing incident forces Wash to flee, he is thrust into a globe-spanning adventure that challenges and reshapes his understanding of family, freedom and love. As he navigates uncharted lands and impossible odds, Wash finds the courage to imagine a future beyond the confines of the society he was born into.”
