28 Years Later, a post-apocalyptic horror film, revolves around a group of survivors staying on a small island amid the growing infection on the mainland. Soon, one of the members realizes that a mutation has affected the other survivors as well, along with the infected. With the film’s release date around the corner, fans are wondering about the return of Cillian Murphy’ Jim.
Here is everything you need to know about the popular character’s presence in the movie.
Will Cillian Murphy’s Jim return in 28 Years Later?
No, Cillian Murphy’s Jim won’t return in 28 Years Later.
Murphy played the lead role in the first film in the zombie franchise, 28 Days Later, released in 2002. However, he was not present in the second part, that is, 28 Weeks Later. Now, with the third part coming out after almost two decades, fans were expecting Murphy to reprise his role of Jim. However, this is not the case, but there is a twist. The actor will eventually return in the upcoming chapters of the franchise.
For the unversed, 28 Years Later is all set to roll out a fresh trilogy. A sequel titled 28 Years Later: The Bone Temple has wrapped up filming and will hit the screens next year. Director Danny Boyle confirmed to IGN early this month that the Peaky Blinders actor will be back in the second installment. He stated, “He (Murphy) is in the second one” and joked he “shouldn’t give away too much. I’ll get killed.”
Boyle also said on the Happy Sad Confused podcast, “I’ve been told to say to you that good things come to those who wait. There are many good things associated with Cillian.” While Murphy is expected to have a small role in part 2, he might be leading the third chapter, which depends on the success of the first two films. Boyle added, “If we get the money, Cillian will obviously be a dominant factor in the third part of the film.”
With the director’s positive comments, fans cannot wait for Murphy’s return to the franchise. 28 years later is set to release in the United States on June 20, 2025.
