Jamie Lee Curtis talks about retirement at Tribeca Film Festival
Acclaimed actress and author Jamie Lee Curtis has stated that she has no plans to retire anytime soon. The Emmy-winning actress talked about her plans to continue working into old age at the Tribeca Film Festival. In an exclusive interview with ET Online, Curtis was asked if she looks forward to retirement. The Freakier Friday star answered, “I’ll die working.”
Previously, Curtis expressed her thoughts about retirement in a 2023 interview. She shared on the Morning Joe show, “There have been many, many, many points when I said ‘I don’t think I’ll ever make another movie again.’” (via MSNBC)
However, the actress shared that her sixties have brought an entirely different outlook to her work. Curtis gushed, “I’ve had the most creative life in the last year than I have in my entire life at 64.”
The daughter of Hollywood royalty Janet Leigh and Tony Curtis, the actress was also candid about revealing her upbringing and watching her celebrity parents’ lives up close. She confessed, “I watched my parents, who both were monster stars…I watched them no longer get to do the work that made them stars. I watched them just be famous people who used to work. And it killed them. And it’s heartbreaking.”
The fear of not getting work prompted the actress to consider retirement. “So, I always felt I better get out before they no longer ask me,” she explained.
But on a more positive note, the Halloween star revealed how she embraces her age. The actress noted that she is “lucky” to get a chance to experience this, including her “every wrinkle.”
Curtis is also happy to represent older women in Hollywood. The actress said, “This is my time to do my work, because I’m now having this opportunity to do it.”
