The Big Bang Theory spin-off show Stuart Fails to Save the Universe will have one particularly major change that will shock fans of the sitcom.
The series’ creator Chuck Lorre shared details regarding the upcoming HBO Max series at Banff World Media Festival, revealing that a few episodes of the show have already been written.
On top of that information, Lorre also noted that fans can expect a pretty big visual departure from The Big Bang Theory, as it will lean heavily on visual effects.
Big Bang Theory spin-off Stuart Fails to Save the Universe will have CGI
Lorre revealed that Stuart Fails to Save the Universe will have plenty of CGI. This is a notable difference from The Big Bang Theory, which mostly took place in a series of static sets like a traditional sitcom.
“There’s a lot of CGI,” Lorre revealed as reported by Variety. “There’s a lot of special technical stuff that — you know, for me in my career, a big production number was two people sitting on a couch, drinking coffee! This is different. This is trying to incorporate some of that world of science fiction/fantasy into a comedy. And I’m completely out of my element, which is what I wanted. Which is what I was hoping to do, something that I had no experience with. And maybe I can learn as we go.”
At least one of Stuart Fails to Save the Universe’s writers isn’t a stranger to CGI. Zak Penn has been enlisted to co-write the series, and his prior credits include The Avengers and Ready Player One.
The show will be The Big Bang Theory’s second spin-off, following the success of the prequel series Young Sheldon. As its title suggests, it will focus on the original show’s recurring character Stuart Bloom (played again by Kevin Sussman) and will also feature Lauren Lapkus as Denise.
